My Favorite Things just released a great cake die. I watched a video were Laura Bassen created a rainbow birthday cake. I am always on the lookout for images that would make masculine birthday cards and so I quickly purchased it before it went out of stock.
Most of the examples I was seeing was made with white cardstock for the frosting. I decided to make this card with chocolate. I cut it three time from thick base weight dark chocolate cardstock from Gina K. Designs and adhered them together with liquid glue.
I also made my cake layers in blue and green. In cardmaking you can make things any color you like. To adhere the cake together I traced around the cake outline onto some white cardstock and fussy cut it just smaller than the cake. I covered it with dotliner adhesive and then adhered all the cake pieced to the base.
The die comes with the letters for "Happy" on little sticks. I cut them from both gold mirror and light blue cardstock. I cut the stick from the light blue and adhered them to the back of the gold letters. Using liquid glue I adhered them to the top of the cake. I didn't like the way the stick looked, so I layered one more brown frosting layer to the image.
The die also comes with confetti. I cut it from the blue and green cardstock and scatter it on top of the cake.
I love the Cuttlebug Happy Birthday Embossing Folder. It made a great background that can also be a sentiment. I cut a rectangle from ivory cardstock, embossed it with the folder, and added a dark brown mat. It was adhered to a top folding A2 ivory cardbase with dotliner adhesive. The cake was adhered in place with liquid glue and the card was done.
