Vellum Stenciled Balloons Happy Birthday Wishes

I watched Gina K. Designs used two stencils to a create a card and decided to give it a try. The process is to use one stencil on cardstock and the second on vellum and overlay the two. I tried it a couple of ways and either the paper stenciled background was too dark and you couldn't see the vellum stencil on top or the stencil used on the paper was to busy, obscuring the vellum pattern. So, I decided to use patterned paper rather than a stencil for the background layer.

In her instructions Gina says that ink of vellum takes a long time to dry and recommends using a heating tool to help make that happen. Also, she recommends putting the ink side down to eliminate any change of smudging.

I used the Echo Park Balloons Stencil to ink blend on vellum with Gina K. designs tranquil Teal and Turquoise Sea for a little Ombre to the balloons. To adhere the vellum Gina used a frame. I pulled out the My Favorite Things Pierced Rectangle Frame, but you could always use two rectangle frames cut together to create a frame. I used dotliner adhesive on the back of my frame and laid the panel balloon stenciled background, face up so the non ink blended side was down, and placed it over the sticky side of the frame. I then took cut thin strips of 3M 1/2" Foam Tape and added to the frame.

For the paper layer I used Lawn Fawn's Perfectly Plaid Winter and cut a rectangle just smaller than the frame. I don't know if my vellum was a heavier weight than the one Gina used, but you could barely see the paper background, so I decided to turn it into a shaker and added turquoise seed beads in the well created by the foam tape, removed the backing paper, and adhered to patterned paper in place.

For the sentiment I die cut the word "happy" from teal cardstock and added thin strips of Simon Says Stamp Big Mama Foam Tape to the back of the letters. It was adhered in place, using liquid glue where the "y" overlapped the frame. Crystal Stickles were added to the word for a little visual interest and sparkle. The secondary sentiment was stamped with teal ink and cut into a sentiment strip and adhered over the die cut word with liquid glue and small pieces of foam tape.
