I love when you can create a card and get a second from what remains. I wanted to create a shaker card with the My Favorite Things "You Take the Cake" word die. I also knew that I wanted to add a small cake to accent the sentiment. I went searching through my dies and found this cake die. It has two layers of cake, but is easy to use only one. I laid the elements on a panel of white cardstock that had been cut down with a stitched rectangle die to determine placement.
The sentiment was cut at the top of the panel so the cake could nestle in the bottom. Since I wanted to use the positive letters of the die on another card, I cut down the same size panel from an orange and yellow polka dot cardstock and used low tack tape to hold the two pieces together. Foam strips were added to the back of the letters which were then adhered in the opening on the white panel. When everything was in place the white panel was carefully removed. Foam tape was added to the back of the orange panel, which was adhered to the front of a top folding cardbase and the second card was started.
Foam tape was added to the white panel, creating a well for the seed beads. A panel of the orange and yellow polka cardstock was cut just smaller than the white panel. Orange seed beads were added to the well. It's a pretty mix of light and dark orange and yellow, which really look good on the orange cardstock. The backing paper was removed from the foam tape and the orange panel was adhered in place.
Two cakes were cut from white cardstock and ink blended with a light and dark brown ink. The cake was held in place on the frosting with some Scotch Tape and then foam strips were added to the back. They were adhered just below the sentiment on the lower left. Orange Crystal Drops were added to the frosting for sprinkles. The panel was then adhered to the front of a top folding cardbase and two cards were created.
